Medicare

All Australian citizens and residents have guaranteed access to health care under the Medicare scheme. As soon as you turn 16 you can apply for your own Medicare card using a form you can find at post offices or Medicare branches. You'll need some kind of ID and the details of your parents' Medicare card. For more information about Medicare, please visit the Medicare website

Many students are eligible for a Health Care Card which provides additional benefits. Students should seek advice about eligibility for a Health Care Card from Centrelink or from their website: www.centrelink.gov.au

Norwegian and Swedish students

Some Norwegian and Swedish students can be or are covered by health insurance provided by their governments and do not have to take out Overseas Student Health Cover as a condition of their student visa. These students are not eligible to join Overseas Student Health Cover.

If Norwegian and Swedish students provide documents that verify they are not eligible to be covered by Swedish and Norwegian student schemes, they can be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover.
