Medicare
All Australian citizens and residents have guaranteed access to health care under the Medicare scheme. As soon as you turn 16 you can apply for your own Medicare card using a form you can find at post offices or Medicare branches. You'll need some kind of ID and the details of your parents' Medicare card. For more information about Medicare, please visit the Medicare website
Many students are eligible for a Health Care Card which provides additional benefits. Students should seek advice about eligibility for a Health Care Card from Centrelink or from their website: www.centrelink.gov.au

Worldcare Assist
Medibank Private
The Department of immigration and the Department of Health and Ageing have recently announced th need for all International students to maintain their Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Maintaining continuous OSHC is a compulsory requirement of your student visa. If your cover has expired, you are in breach of your student visa. You must maintain your cover for the entire time while you are studying.
Norwegian and Swedish students
Some Norwegian and Swedish students can be or are covered by health insurance provided by their governments and do not have to take out Overseas Student Health Cover as a condition of their student visa. These students are not eligible to join Overseas Student Health Cover.
If Norwegian and Swedish students provide documents that verify they are not eligible to be covered by Swedish and Norwegian student schemes, they can be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover.
