Influenza is a contagious disease. To help reduce the spread of influenza in this workplace, the following actions are required of everybody.
DO NOT COME TO WORK IF YOU HAVE:
A fever (temperature >38C) PLUS a Cough
PLUS one or more of the following:
- Headache, fatigue and weakness
- Sore throat
- Chest discomfort, or shortness of breath
- Muscle aches and pains
- Stuffy nose
If some of the above symptoms apply to you, please stay at home, seek medical advice and wait until you have recovered before returning to work.
If you start to feel ill at work with the above symptoms advise your manager and keep at least one metre away from others.
Consult QUT Health Services at Kelvin Grove (3138 3161), Gardens Point (3138 2321) or call 13 Health (13 43 25 84) if you are concerned about your symptoms. Advise your GP if you have recently arrived or returned from overseas.
Symptoms usually appear 1-3 days after being infected and the disease is highly contagious. Most people recover within a week but tiredness and a cough may persist. Influenza can sometimes lead to severe complications such as pneumonia or brain inflammation. Influenza can also be fatal.
